Benson & District Angling Society

Aims

Benson & District Angling Society was formed in 1926 for the purpose of providing good fishing locally for Benson anglers and the preservation of fish stocks on local waters.

Meetings

Regular friendly competitions are held throughout the year, with a number of inter-club matches between Benson, Dorchester and Wallingford. The society has a good selection of trophies that are presented annually to winners of competitions and captors of the best specimen fish.

Eligibility

Anglers residing within a five mile radius of Benson and others on application to the committee.

Cost

£8:00 annually (seniors); £4:00 annually (juniors and O.A.P.'s).

Misc.

The waters provided by the society on the River Thames are from the end of the footpath to the river adjacent to Benson Marina, upstream for four fields on the towpath side to the gate marked as Benson & D.A.S. limit. At present the society is actively looking to lease a lake locally. The fishing has been very good in recent years with specimen carp, bream, chub and perch being caught along with good mixed bags of the usual Thames species. Benson & D.A.S. have a reciprocal arrangement with Dorchester A.S. where our members are welcome to fish Dorchester's water on the Thames and Thame and their members are welcome to fish at Benson. All new members are welcome and further information is available from the officers below.
